Iron deficiency is the leading nutritional disorder in the world, and the most common cause of anaemia globally.
Why we need iron
Iron is needed to make red blood cells, and for them to carry oxygen around the body properly – especially during exercise and other activity.
Where iron comes from
Red meat is the most common source of iron in the diet. Chicken, fish, cheese and eggs also contain iron. Pulses, beans, tofu and green leafy vegetables contain smaller amounts, and the body may absorb iron from these foods less well.
